Disability Access Guidelines
We believe that all our customers and visitors should have the same chance to enjoy everything the Alley Arts & Conference Centre has to offer. This guide gives information about how we have worked to create access for all. If it does not answer your question, please get in touch with us.
Programme of Events
The Alley Arts & Conference Centre programme of events is published three times per year and is available from our Box Office or via www.alley-theatre.com which is “browse aloud” enabled. It is also available in alternative formats on request.
The Alley Arts & Conference Centre is located close to a number of town centre car parks with the nearest car park across from the Centre at John Wesley Street. The Road Service provides two designated disabled parking spaces opposite the centre and one at the rear of the centre. There are dropped kerbs, level and ramped access from all approaches.
On approach, steps, handrails and ramps with accessibility features provide access to the entrance. The Centre has a level threshold at the automatic doors. A lift provides access to all public levels of the Centre. The lift has lowered control positions and speech indication and all contain signs in Braille.
There is a lowered section at Box Office reception and at the Cafeteria. Hand rails are in place on stairs to the Gallery area and in the Auditorium. Designated wheelchair space is provided in the Auditorium at both levels, These have a sideways view of the stage. Seating in the Auditorium is also retractable therefore can accommodate further wheelchair access if required. An accessible unisex toilet is provided on the ground floor for customers. There are a number of accessible unisex toilets, sanitary and changing facilities located at back of house for mobility impaired artists. All toilets are fitted with an emergency call system. A number of refuge areas for wheelchair users have been designated in the event of an emergency. An evacuation chair is also available. There is a wheelchair on site for use by patrons if required.
There is an induction loop hearing system available at Box Office and in the Auditorium. Hearing aids should be set to the “T” position. Visible alarms will display during emergencies.
Internal doors have tactile signage All nature of assistance dogs are welcome. There is voice indication whilst using the lift. There is also visual contrast on the edges of steps.

Some seats are better than others for particular needs, for example access for an assistance dog or for reading captions. We are happy to advise you if you call and ask.
